Old Business Covered

  • Coup Keeper stocked with headbands and ribbons. Orange ribbons will be handed out to tribe chiefs at each Saturday morning Chiefs meeting during official camp outs. Pinewood Derby trophies and ribbons will be ready for the camp out.
  • Waumpum Bear received invoice from the Y for the Nation Dues (~$1500.00). Bank accounts; ~$1500.00 checking after Y dues are paid. ~$5000.00 savings
  • State Campout Registration is open http://www.statewidepowwow2012.info/ please watch links as members have had issues possibly related to the registration site. State Chief has been notified. Tell your tribes to watch their accounts/cards after they register to monitor suspicious activity.  State chief informed me 1/30/2012 that they will do their “level best” to get all of Canaveral in one location
  • Corporate Sponsorship – email received from Billy Specht, Executive Director Titusville Y, on 1/31/2012 giving us the go ahead to pursue corporate sponsorship funds for “supplies and event sponsorship”. A copy of this email will be placed on the Nation Web site for archival purposes.
  • Creek chief received quotes for 12x18 magnetic signs from Pride for $8.47ea. for companies providing donations. Said companies, must provide graphics for the signs.
  • Merritt Island Relay For Life , April 21, 2012,  Jefferson Middle School  registration - www.relayforlife.org/merrittislandfl- Canaveral Nation Team is registered. Share link with tribes and encourage them to register with the team online. Relay coincides with our Age Out Camp Out. I have informed the Relay Committee that we will not be on the field due to the schedule conflict.
  • May Banquet camp out, River Ranch – waiting for a deposit invoice, they set up a block of rooms for those who want them, call 863-692-1321 to make these reservations and identify themselves as coming for the Canaveral Nation event...group code 14-709. Tent sites are $15.00 +tax per night. RV sites are $35.00 + tax/per night. I will need a number of people attending so I can give them a heads up.http://wgriverranch.comI will post additional information on River Ranch on the Nation Website

New Business

  • Rack on the nation trailer needs welded. Chief will coordinate with Cherokee Chief to have trailer taken to his work site in Titusville to have the repairs made.
  • March 7th Council Meeting CANCELLED. We will meet one night at State.

Pinewood Derby Race Rules

The following are guidelines for planning the Pinewood Derby “Fun Campout”

  • The Canaveral Nation issues 1 pinewood derby car kit to each registered little brave.
  • The Pinewood Derby is typically held during the February campout.
  • During the planning meeting the nation council will assign 1 tribe to be responsible to put up and take down the track. This includes obtaining the track from storage and returning it on Sunday.
  • The nation Thunder-Maker needs to be sure the sound system is set up for the awards ceremony
  • The rules for the size of the car are spelled out on our website: www.canaveralnation.net. In general they are;
  • ·         2 ¾” wide
  • ·         7” long
  • ·         3” high
  • ·         5 ounces
  • The qualifying heats will be held on Saturday Morning. Each tribe will be assigned a time during the planning meeting. Each tribe is allotted 45 minutes for qualifying.
  • Each car must be registered and weighed prior to the qualifying heat. The car is assigned a number that will be used to identify the car throughout the events. Each tribe chief is responsible for entering the cars for their tribe. Tally Keeper will assist.
  • The 3 fastest cars will advance to the finals.
  • In addition to the 3 fastest cars from each tribe, 3 “Wild Card” cars will advance to the finals, these are the next 3 fastest cars in the nation.
  • The cars that make the finals need to be checked in and weighed by 2:30 on Saturday.
  • All little braves that choose to enter their car in the contests for appearance need to have their cars available for judging by 4:00 pm.
  • The cars will be judged by the tribe chiefs in the following categories:
  • ·         Best Looking Car
  • ·         Best Indian Theme
  • ·         Best Effort by Little Brave
  • The nation chief will select his favorite car for the “ Chief’s Choice” Award
  • The Nation Coup Keeper needs to order awards as follows:

Trophies for:

  • First Place Overall
  • Second Place Overall
  • Third Place Overall
  • Best Looking Car
  • Best Indian Them
  • Best Effort By Little Brave
  • Chiefs Choice Award

Ribbons for:

  • First Place in Tribe (x 7 tribes)
  • Second Place in Tribe(x 7 tribes)
  • Third Place in Tribe(x 7 tribes)

The award ceremony is held on Sunday Morning at 10:00 a.m. at either the pavilion or the normal council meeting place (where the tipi normally goes)

Chili Cook Off Rules

  • The Chili Cook Off is held on Saturday Night.
  • Each tribe may enter up to 2 chili’s .
  • During the planning meeting, the nation will assign 1 tribe responsible for hosting the chili cook off.
  • Entries must be at the host tribe by 9:00 p.m.
  • The tribe chiefs will judge the chili.
  • An award is given for 1st place only.
  • After the chiefs, the chili is made available for everyone who shows up with a bowl and spoon.
  • The host tribe is responsible for providing beverages to the Nation Medicine Man.
